Information for Students
1000classrooms.org is a non-profit organization started by an 11 year old Canadian student to help kids and gorillas in Africa.  The goal is to have 1 000 different classrooms each donate $3.  No kid should have to donate more than 25 cents (but they can if they want to).  The money buys eggs from widows of Park Rangers who were killed protecting very rare gorillas.  The eggs are then given to the children who often otherwise do not have enough to eat.

What can you do?  Please mention it to your teacher and try to get your class involved! All the information about how to donate is on the For Teachers page of this website. We will list every class who participates on the honour role of our website!  If you can, try to get other classrooms in your school to participate as well.  Let your friends at other schools know about it.

This program is by kids, for kids and we must make sure it is successful. You can print this easy one page "how to get involved" for your teacher.

Did you know that gorillas and orangutans could be extinct in our lifetime if more is not done to protect them?  We need to help the people who live near the habitats of endangered animals both because the kids deserve our help and the animals need it!  Please spread the word and get as many classrooms as you can involved!  If you could get 10 classrooms to join, you would be responsible for giving 120 eggs to hungry children, as well as helping to protect endangered animals!  For more information email apeaware@gmail.com

My website is called ApeAware.  It has a lot of information and ideas and the Funstuff page has lots of other links to sites with games and information about apes

Roots and Shoots is the kids organization started by Dr. Jane Goodall a great activist for apes and for our planet.  Check it out.  There might be a Roots and Shoots club in your area.  If not, you can start one.

Bonobokids is a great website for kids.  Check out their blog which gives lots of information and challenges for kids who want to look after the environment and you can learn lots about my favourite animal the bonobo!
